I was first introduced to the Intermittent Fasting benefits from a wonderful article I saw on CNN and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

The article is full of information and even a video from Dr. Gupta and so I made a video on Youtube for my subscribers and introduced my followers to the many benefits.

From this video I received a very wonderful testimony from a woman who has diabetes and had emotional eating habits. 

I asked her to give us a testimony so this new fasting (she was doing the 16/8 protocol)
program could help others.

What is Intermittent Fasting 16 8?

In this new trend diet fad you will be fasting 16 hours and eating all you want for 8 hours.  It is suggested however that you avoid sugar, dairy and white enriched flours. But some are eating anything they desire.  Reversing your health depends on a healthy lifestyle though.

In one study they suggested you do the 12 hour fast and 12 hour eating period but many health gurus found that fat burns faster after the 12 hour mark and fasting for 12 hours was more beneficial.

When you break your fast, begin with your black seed oil which is proven to help with weight loss and is a "cure for all disease but death" including diabetes and cancer.  See my dosage page for a full list of benefits.

THE INTERMITTENT FASTING DIET

You will read on many sites that you can eat whatever you want after you break your fast.  The couple on the CNN article fasted till 5pm and had no rules on what they could eat after breaking the fast, but common sense only dictates that eating healthy is what you should do.

If your goal is to cure a disease, eliminate inflammation and stomach problems then, eating healthy is a must.  Even if you want to reduce pounds then eating the right foods will help you to reduce your weight faster and easier.
 
Many of the body building sites will emphasize that exercizing is a must and will only help in reducing fat. 

Here are my suggestions:

1.  Break your fast with a glass of organic juice (my favorites are black cherry, black currant and orange juice) and 1 to 2 teaspoons of Perfect Press Black Seed oil.  This will help in your weight loss and elimination of illness also.
2.  Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat anything and your breakfast meal should be a light meal with few carbs.  Consider making smoothies with low glycemic fruits and nut milks, such as hemp which is my favorite.
3.  You only have 8 to 12 hours to eat in and so pace out your meals and making room for a huge salad at some time in the day.  When making your salad consider that 1 cup of olive oil is 2000 calories and so go light on the oils.  I use Goat yogurt as my dressing choice with a few squirts of lime juice.
4.  Drink spring water and herbal teas. My favorite is Fiji water, and if that is not available then I use Evian.  Stay far away from sweetened drinks or colas.
5.  You can have up to 500 calories if you are fasting days and not hours.  So if you choose to do the 36 hour fast, you can eat up to 500 cheat calories.  If you eat more than 500 calories then realize this becomes a food day, not a fast day.
6.  It is perfectly alright to have frozen fruit in the freezer to nibble on occasionally in the beginning.  My optimum choice is frozen banana slices or cherries.  Just if you are having a twinge of hunger, have one slice or one cherry.  I keep the stems on the cherries and treat them like an ice pop.
INTERMITTENT FASTING WEIGHT LOSS

I began this fast as I noticed I was gaining weight and I was not comfortable with what was happening. 

After reading the story of one of my followers on Youtube and reading the CNN story on how this couple regained their health, I decided to give it a try.

I have no health problems at the present, but I am 65 years old now and I am doing this as a preventative measure.
Please note the first week is mainly water loss and as the weeks progress you will on average lose less.  My goal was to lose 20 kilos or 44 pounds.  Like the woman on Youtube I fasted from 8pm at night until 12noon the next day.

My first day of fasting I lost 5.2 pounds and very excited what will continue to happen.  Day 2 I did not lose any weight.  So I wanted to see if I could really eat all I wanted as the Wallstreet Journal stated and it is a big fat no.  See my post below.

WHAT I LEARNED ON MY FAST

What I learned on my fast was that adjustments have to be made.  The first two days were the hardest as we are proned to eat on desire. 

5 years ago I broke the cartilage in my knee and so exercising is not possible other than housework.  If you are not disabled the doing some exercise is valuable in your weight loss journey and it will help your body to eliminate the fat.

Adding the black seed oil helped me with inflammation and hunger.  I loved how my stomach became flatter also.

Avoid as many carbs as you can and bulk up on protein (plant) and fruits and healthy snacks.  I chose Spring water and detox teas as my best drinks.  I made detox tea from black seeds, burdock, red raspberry, black walnut leaf and elderberry.  Just place 1 tablespoon of each herb in a pot with 1 kilo of spring water and bring to boil for five minutes.  Then steep for 10 minutes and strain.  I have a wonderful carafe I put the tea in and I can sip on that thru the day.  This is a Dr. Sebi Detox tea.

You will find the 8 hours will go fast.  I had to rush to get my last meal in so I am not starving myself.  I did not just eat salads and soups as you might think.  I ate as I desired, but on the healthy side.  I did not deprive myself.

The more I fasted, the less hungry I became.  I found that food was not my friend and when fasting my inflammation was gone and I just felt happier.

Can You Eat All You Want?

On day two I wanted to test out the Wallstreet Journal's philosophy on "eat all you want."  This is a big NO!!  I felt awful.  I tried to fit 3 meals in my 8 hour period and I was bloated and felt I was going to die.  I even woke up to see the angel of death, lol

I started calling everyone and went around the house checking on all the cats too.  I had nightmares to say the least.  The carbs were so bad for me and like most of the fitness channels tell you, carbs are your enemies.

The best way to do this fast is by eating healthy.

Woman Loses 50 Pounds Fasting 3 Days a Week

There are two types of intermittent fasting. 

You can cut out days or do the 16/8 (fast 16 hours, eat 8 hours) or Follow the Wallstreet Journal suggestion 12/12. 

This woman Sumaya Kazi lost 50 pounds fasting for 36 hours a week and eating all she wanted 4 days a week.
